Overview

Situated just over 30 minutes from Darwin CBD, Berry Springs is the gateway to the Cox Peninsula.

The Tavern caters to a growing local clientele and is also supported by locals from the surrounding rural areas and Palmerston, as well as being a popular weekend watering hole for Darwin residents. Within walking distance from the Tavern is a small local shopping centre which has an IGA, café, pharmacy, GP and a Mitre 10 store.

The Tavern is perfectly located on one of the busiest tourist routes in the NT and is easily accessible off the Stuart Highway or via Finn Road which connects to Palmerston.

The main attractions along the Cox Peninsula Road are the ‘Berry Springs’ which is a seasonal freshwater spring, Litchfield National Park and Dundee Beach. Hundreds of thousands of visitors each year access the springs etc via the town of Berry Springs. The Tavern captures many of these visitors either on the way to their destination or returning (often both) keen for a meal and/or a cold beer or glass of wine.

Dundee Beach is growing as a tourist attraction in the last two years with the completion of the road. Most weekends there will be several thousand people relaxing at their shacks or enjoying camping and fishing.

As Berry Springs is the last drive-thru bottle shop between the Highway and Dundee, it experiences busy periods at the start of most weekends and again benefits from the returning traffic in the afternoons.

The Berry Springs watering hole situated within a kilometre of the Tavern is one of the greatest draw cards the town offers. Figures show that over 180,000 people visit the springs each year (many are repeat visitors and locals)

18 months ago, the Tavern introduced its own 4.8 metre saltwater crocodile enclosure. They have regular feeds on Friday afternoons which has become a popular tourist attraction.
